The Maltese Archipelago situated in the middle of the Mediterranean, lies 93km south of Sicily and 290km from North Africa. Malta, the largest inhabited island, Gozo and Comino have landscapes characterized by low hills with terraced fields.
Malta has splendid miles of coastline, bays, beaches and coves to explore, including the allure of the Blue Grotto and its caves. Take a Karrozzin ride (a horse drawn carriage) through Mdina, a preserved medieval walled city, once the capital. Window–shop and have a glass of excellent Maltese wine. Valletta, the Capital, is a walking city. Starting from Castille Square, visit St John’s Co-Cathedral, the Palace of the Grand Masters and the National Museum, which houses an impressive archaeological collection.
Gozo is connected to Malta by ferry and is more thickly vegetated with many flat-topped hills and craggy cliffs. Comino, the smallest and sparsely-populated island is connected to Malta and Gozo by ferry.
